Purpose of the Arts Commission

The Pleasant Grove Arts Commission has been formed to provide guidance, support and access to the arts for the residents of the city.  

Our goals are to: (1) Strengthen the artistic resources in the city (2) Increase public awareness and appreciation for the arts (3) Assess the needs for art facilities in the city (4) Promote performances by local, regional and national artists (5) Inform the city of cultural opportunities (6) Oversee the city sponsored art groups (7) Act as an advisory board to the mayor and city council in art matters

Board Structure

The Executive Board

Committee Chair - The chair is the liaison to the art groups and facilitates their needs through monthly meetings. The chair oversees the board and its functions and makes suggestions regarding the arts to the mayor and city council

Vice-Chair - The vice-chair fills in when the chair is absent or when the position is vacant.  The vice-chair fills a board member position according to their skill set.

Secretary - The secretary prepares agendas for all meetings; records minutes of the meetings and submits them to the city recorder.  Secretary maintains files of all minutes, correspondence and reports.

Board of Commissioners

Communications Commissioner - Maintains calendar of events and promotes the arts through multiple media sources.

Public Outreach & Education Commissioner - Collaborates with local schools on art issues.  Initiates and maintains Essay writing activities.

Special Events Commissioner - Oversees approved events and event directors.  Current events in the works: (1) Quick Draw (2) Arts Festival

Grants/Funding & Professional Development Commissioner - Liaison to the Patron of the Arts.  Identifies and seeks grants and fund raising opportunities.

Visual Arts Commissioner - Initiates and maintains visual arts programs and oversees the curator.

Board Member at Large - Individual board member with no specific on-going assigned task, but assists the other board members where possible.

Adjunct Board

Youth Advocate - Report on art matters from a youth perspective and elicits ideas and opinions from school aged citizens.

Curator - Manages the visual art collections in the city

Arts Festival Director - Help implement the inaugural Arts Festival in Pleasant Grove.  Oversee all areas and create an arts festival board to manage this event.

5k Race Manager - Serve on a board with the library and recreation center to support and run the city's race series.
