Arts Commission Positions

Executive Board

Chair

The Chairs role is to carry out the mission of the PG A C. The Chair is the liaison to the Program Groups and this videotaped their needs through monthly meetings. Additionally, the Chair oversees the board and its functions. The Chair is also the liaison to the City Council and make suggestions regarding the Arts, as needed, to the City Council

Time Required: 20 hours a month

Skills/Requirements Needed: Own a computer and be computer literate, be skilled in using updated word processing programs, e-mail, and had Internet connection. This chair should be highly organized and punctual. Knowledge of rules and order for meeting management needed. Must be capable of communicating and negotiating with program groups and other city organizations. Knowledgeable about the Arts and committed to improving the Arts in the city. Must have good communication skills.

Vice Chair

The vice chairs role is to assist the chair and other directors in carrying out the mission of the PG a C. The vice chair bills and for the president when absent and when the position is vacant. The vice chair is assumed to be the next year following the three-year term of the chair.**The vice chair fills the board member position as well, according to their skill set.

Secretary

  • Prepared agenda for meetings and supplies a copy to board members, program groups and city recorder three days before a planned meeting.
  • Record minutes of board meeting and prepares minutes for submission to city recorder.
  • Write thank you notes for donations of supplies, time, expertise, equipment and space.
  • Maintains a file for all meeting minutes in correspondence.
  • Maintains a file for all program groups and accompanying annual reports.
  • Participates in all board meetings.

Time Required: 10 to 15 hours per month

Skills/Requirements Needed: good secretarial skills and handwriting needed. On a computer and be computer literate. Be skilled in using updated word processing programs and e-mail; have an Internet connection. Organization skills required. Willing to update his/her skills as needed for the success of the commission.

Leisure Service Director

           The leisure service Dir. is a part of the executive board, but does not have a vote in commission matters.

City Council Representative

The city Council representative is a part of the executive board, but does not have a vote in commission matters.

Board of Commissioners

Communication Commissioner

  • Help plan ways to motor programs.
  • Maintain a calendar of events and the requisite needs of our program groups.
  • Promote PG AC activities via newspaper, flyers, community leaders, etc.
  • Communicate needs and changes to the city website administrator.
  • Regularly update PG AC Facebook page and other social media.
  • Participate in all board meetings.

Time Required: 10 to 15 hours per month.

Skills/Requirements Needed: on a computer and be computer literate, be skilled in using updated word processing programs, e-mail, knowledge of HTML and have an Internet connection. This Commissioner should be highly organized and punctual.

Public Outreach and Education Commissioner

  • Meet with local schools to discuss collaboration and issues.
  • Initiate and maintain programs such as Arbor Day, essay writing, and other activities as called upon by the city Council.
  • Participate in all board meetings.

Time Required: 5 to 10 hours per month could be greater at times based upon the commission's needs and activities.

Skills/Requirements Needed: willing, energetic and idea oriented. On a computer and be computer literate be skilled in using updated word processing programs, e-mail and have an Internet connection needs to be creative and have willingness to promote the arts in the city. Should be organized and able to manage committees to complete tasks assigned.

Special Events Commissioner

  • generate ideas for unique events
  • schedule programs in conjunction with other organizations
  • Oversee every approved event; appoint the program chairperson, advertise for and recruit volunteers, insurer needed resources are available, keep everyone motivated on schedule.
  • May serve as an event chairperson if the chair cannot be found or is unable to serve
  • report progress of every event to the board on a monthly basis, or more often as necessary
  • At the conclusion of everything, review before the success and roadblocks again for future knowledge for future programs.
  • To manage: QuickDraw evening, arts Festival
  • participate in all board meetings

Time Required: will vary based upon schedule of events and can exceed 20 hours per week at times.

Skills/Requirements Needed: have high energy and able to motivate unpaid volunteers. These be creative. Have knowledge of the arts of what's possible for and arts commission the size of PG AC. Needs to be committed to bringing the arts to the citizens of Pleasant Grove. Own a computer and be computer literate, be skilled in using updated word processing programs, e-mail and presentation software and have an Internet connection. Should be highly organized and punctual. May have experience in leadership positions, marketing and event planning.

Grants/Funding and Professional Development Commissioner

  • serve as a liaison to the patriots of the arts
  • Identify sources of grant; prepare grant requests and follow-up through to the award. Provide post-award reporting to grantor is beneficial or required
  • If a command is denied, works with the grantor and the board to identify reasons for denial so future applications will have greater success.
  • Identifies and pursues other non-grant sources for financial contribution to the commission.
  • Generates and implement fundraising ideas.
  • Provides grant and fund raising spree sources and ideas to the program groups.
  • Participates in all board meetings.

Time Required: 5 to 10 hours per month could be greater at times based upon the commissions need an activity.

Skills/Requirements Needed: willing, energetic and idea oriented. Knowledgeable about the arts and committed to bring the arts and an arts center to Pleasant Grove. On a computer and be computer literate, be skilled in using updated word processing program, e-mail and have an Internet connection. Must have excellent writing and taking skills. Experience making presentations to groups is a plus.

Visual Arts Commissioner

  • Initiate and maintain programs directly related to the visual arts. Will include being a liaison to the Strawberry days committee and a liaison to the recreation department in regards to our programs offered through them.
  • Provide curator services or oversee the addition of a courier adjunct board member to catalog city visual arts assets. In addition, offer suggestions about how to maintain the art pieces along into the city.
  • May suggest additional committees to help complete tasks.
  • Participate in board meetings.

Time Required: 5 to 10 hours per month could be greater at times based upon the commission's needs and activities.

Needs to be creative and have knowledge of visual arts. Should be organized and able to manage committees to complete tasks assigned.

Board Member at Large

This individual is a board member with no specific ongoing assigned task or responsibility. A board member at large will to the health of the board members and volunteers with developing and executing programs and events will participate in all board meetings.

Adjunct Board

The adjunct board is made up of member volunteers who provide advice and execute specific tax under the direction of the arts commission board. I Jude board member may, but are not obligated to, attend regular board meetings and work sessions. Adjunct board members have no voting rights on the arts commission board.

Youth Advocate (16 to 19-year-old)

  • give opinion and input on matters before the arts commission
  • report on commission matters to select groups in the schools and community and to elicit ideas and opinions from school aged citizens of Pleasant Grove
  • the Advocate will serve a year term from June to May

Curator

  • Manages the collection of visual arts in the city. Inventories and maintains the art that is property of the city.
  • Makes an annual accounting of the art to the board
  • Encourages rotation of the art and showing of art so that it can be appreciated by the citizens of Pleasant Grove

Arts Festival Director

  • Implement and oversee the inaugural arts festival in Pleasant Grove
  • Assemble an Arts Festival board to accomplish the goals of the festival

5k Race Manager

  • Serve on a committee with the library and rec center to manage the city's Race Series
